Scope note
Disc-like, saucer-shaped targets, about 4 1/2 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick hurled through the air from a trap in the sports of skeet and trapshooting; first developed in the 1860s and made of baked clay, now usually a mixture of river silt and pitch.
